Vily Dardanes
Head Coach
Vily started learning and mastering the “Pistol” Pete Maravich’s Dribbling and Shooting Drills in 8th grade before entering High School when the Varsity coach told him, “If you want to play on Varsity as a Freshman you have to master ball handling. I need a good point guard.”
Vily spent the next six months doing just that. He earned a spot on the Varsity team and eventually started halfway through the first season. He continued to start the rest of his high school career. Vily led the team in assists, shooting percentage and free throw percentage.
During this time he played in many Chicago city tournaments against players like Isaiah Thomas (Westchester High School went to the NBA Hall of Fame), Terry Cummings (Carver High School went to NBA), Mark Aguirre (Austin High School went to NBA). During the summer time between high school seasons, Vily traveled with a city all-star team to different states to enhance his game for the upcoming season.
Vily went on to play at Aurora College and played 2 years as the starting point guard. After incurring an ACL injury, he transferred to Elmhurst University to get his Computer Science degree. Vily came back to his high school to coach the freshman, sophomore, and assist the Varsity teams. Coaching over the years includes in-house teams and traveling teams between ages 8-15 teaching offensive and defensive schemes as well as the “Pistol” Pete ball handling skills.
